05. Conclusion

The investments made by the Texas legislature throughout the past several sessions created a strong base for improving the mental health system for Texans. People will be served in facilities specifically designed for modern mental health care. To use these facilities to the wisest advantage will rely on mental health care professionals. It is imperative Texas focuses beyond brick and mortar and invests in market competitive compensation for the staff that will serve Texas’ most vulnerable population. By supporting a workforce to care for people in need of mental health care, then stakeholders, communities and people can develop programs to enhance the continuum of care to create an efficient system. There is a strong foundation that initiated a shift in Texas’ mental health system, but there is more to do to be the leader in the nation for mental (brain) health care.
